A 32-year-old businessman has been allegedly set ablaze by three people, including a couple, over a payment dispute in Mathura, police said on Wednesday.

An FIR has been lodged against Mohan Lal, a trader, his wife Pushpa and his partner Bobby, following a complaint by the victim's brother-in-law.

The accused sprinkled petrol on victim Dinesh Agarwal, who retailed in clothes for Krishna idols, and torched him, after he went to Mohan's place asking for his money last evening, SSP Akhilesh Kumar Meena said.

People staying nearby took Dinesh to a hospital, where he was declared brought dead.

The accused are absconding, Kumar said, adding the victim's body has been sent for postmortem.
