Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s web series Heeramandi was released on Netflix earlier this month. While the web series received mixed reviews, it soon became a talking point among audiences for its historical inaccuracies and casting choices. Sanjay Leela Bhansali and his niece, Sharmin Segal, who essays the role of Alamzeb in the series, especially bore the brunt of heavy critique by the viewers. Among this, a new video of Sharmin reciting her ‘parwana’ poetry has gone viral.
In a now-viral video, Sharmin could be seen reciting her famous dialogue from Heeramandi while sitting next to Aditi Rao Hydari and Sonakshi Sinha. While Sharmin was saying the dialogue, Aditi looked away with a blank expression on her face and Sonakshi looked down and smiled. Their reactions have now gone viral. Watch the video here:

Netizens flocked to the comments section to express their hot takes on the video. One person wrote, “Sona was holding that laugh soo hard.” Another person added, “Sonakshi is all of us.” One person commented, “Aditi gave the bombastic side eye.” One person added, “She wants to laugh but she can’t, Sonakshi is just like me.” Another person wrote, “It’s like when my friends do presentations and I’m presenting with them while controlling my laughter.”
Sharmin Segal, who is Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s niece, has been receiving a volley of criticism for her “expressionless” performance in the Netflix series Heeramandi. A section of the internet even claims that “nepotism got her this role”. Recently, actor Shruti Sharma, who played Sharmin’s maid in Heeramandi, came out in her support.
In an interview with Pinkvilla, Shruti said that she was unaware about Sharmin being subjected to hate comments on social media. She said, “Honestly, I wasn’t aware that people were trolling her until now. I don’t know what audiences have liked or not liked about Sharmin, but I’ve seen her trying her best like everyone else on the sets. It doesn’t matter who’s being trolled, but trolling is a bad thing to do.”
She added, “Criticism is one thing; healthy criticism is always welcome, but trolling is unacceptable. It is a very negative way of approaching anyone. It is a kind of mental harassment. If it is happening, I am very concerned for her right now.”
Sharmin, the daughter of Bella Bhansali Segal and Deepak Segal, plays the role of Alamzeb in the show, which boasts an ensemble cast of acclaimed actors like Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha, Richa Chadha, Shekhar Suman, and Aditi Rao Hydari.
While Manisha, Sonakshi and Aditi have been getting much love and appreciation for their solid performances, Sharmin has been receiving a huge backlash for “holding the same expression” throughout the show. Following the constant negativity, Sharmin has turned off comments on her recent picture of her with Sanjay Leela Bhansali at the Los Angeles premiere of Heeramandi.
