TIRUPATI: Family members of a bridegroom cancelled the marriage and attacked the family members of the bride for arriving late to the marriage venue.The incident took place at Tiruchanoor late on Saturday night and came to light on Sunday morning.According to the bride's family, the girl Umamaheswari from Kodur was to marry Subbarayudu from Tiruchanoor and the marriage was scheduled to be held on Sunday morning.The marriage dinner was organised on Saturday night.The bride along with the relatives, who travelled from Kodur to Tiruchanoor for the marriage, reached the venue half an hour late on Saturday night. Irked by the delay, family members of the groom called off the marriage and thrashed the family members of the bride.Even the bride was beaten.The frightened bride's family immediately fled to Jeevakona, a residential locality in Tirupati and spent the night there.On Sunday morning, they revealed the episode to the media.They alleged that the groom's family had taken Rs 30,000 cash and 4 tolas of gold from them as dowry.However, the families of the bride and the groom decided not to lodge any police complaint.Police confirmed that no case was registered.
