CHENNAI: A student’s tip-off helped the police find an unidentified man’s body, which lay partially buried in the sands of the Marina, and nab two labourers present on the crime scene, on Sunday.It was around 11.30 pm and SI Palanisamy was patrolling near Gandhi Statue, when a boy came running towards him. “The boy claimed that two men were hitting another person on the chest on the sands behind Light House,” the sub-inspector told Express.As he rushed to the spot, he saw a man’s head buried in the sand and two men trying to flee. Sounding an alert to the ‘Blue Brigade’ patrolmen, they nabbed the duo. The SI pulled the man’s head out of the sand but could not determine whether he was dead or alive, so he called a ‘108’ ambulance.Arriving at the spot, the paramedics proclaimed the man dead. On information, police rushed there and found themselves in the horns of a dilemma, as a thorough search of the dead man’s clothes did not yield any clue about his identity. The boy, a resident of Nochikuppam, but he could not throw any light on the dead man’s identity.The arrested duo, Rithesh and Prabhu, too claimed that they did not know him. Grilled, they claimed that they were native of Kanyakumari and worked as construction labourers.The dead man was estimated to be around 30 years The body was sent to GH for autopsy, while the alleged killers were produced before the 13th Metropolitan Magistrate Court in Egmore and remanded.
