New Delhi: The world's biggest elections resulted in a dramatic victory for India's Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) and its allies last week. As many Bollywood stars are now also swept into the parliament, the event led to debates about how the new government would affect India's film industry.
A leading English daily quoted Mithlesh Kumar Tripathi, national convenor of BJP's art and culture cell: "We have done our homework for developing movies that are rich in cultural values and have a strong flavour of Indian traditions."
Tripathi cited the example of the '90s blockbuster film, 'Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge'. He added that the film, which revolved around the great Indian family, was a good example of wholesome family entertainment.
The newspaper also quoted Tripathi saying that the art and culture cell of the BJP will implement a number of schemes and programmes aimed at providing "financial support to individuals, groups and cultural organisations engaged in the visual and literary arts."
