TIRUPUR: A duo, who stole bikes from Tirupur district and gave it on rent in Kerala, were arrested and 37 stolen two-wheelers were recovered from them, the police said on Monday.According to the cops, during checking of vehicles near Sandhai Pettai on Palladam Road on Sunday they detained Ramasamy alias Ramkumar (30) of J J Nagar, Pichampalayam Pudur in Tirupur and Muhammad Hussein alias Sadik Basha (38), of Pottakulam in Palakad, Kerala. Upon interrogation, they revealed that they stole motorbikes from various parts of Tirupur, Palladam, Avinashi and Erode city. The police recovered 37 bikes worth `11.76 lakh, which were stolen from Tirupur in the past three months. A bunch of duplicate keys were also seized from them.District SP V Balakrishnan said: “The duo used to steal bikes by using duplicate keys particularly older model bikes, as the lock would be weak to open with false keys. After stealing the bikes they kept them in a godown on the outskirts of Tirupur and transported them to Palakad. These bikes were given for rent in Kerala, as they could not sell them.” According to Balakrishnan, 21 bikes which were given for rent in Palakad and 16 bikes from the godown in Tirupur were seized. “They confessed to stealing totally 45 bikes from Tirupur and the remaining eight bikes would be recovered soon, after further probe with them.” he added.
