Patna: The Army on Tuesday denied reports that an explanation was sought over its recruitment rally in Bihar where candidates appeared for a written test stripped down to their underwear.
An army spokesperson in Delhi denied reports that Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar sought an explanation after Patna High Court took cognizance of the matter.
Over 1,000 candidates who appeared for clerical posts were on Sunday asked to sit for the test dressed only in their undergarments to prevent cheating.
The candidates sat cross-legged on the ground in their briefs for the one-hour test.Though some complained of cold and discomfort, they had no choice.
On Tuesday, the Patna High Court reportedly sought the defence ministry's reply on how hundreds of youth appearing for the army recruitment examination were forced to take off their clothes.
The report also said Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar sought an explanation from the Army in this regard.
Army authorities said that in the past candidates had hidden chits with answers and other high-tech gadgets inside their clothes to cheat in the exams.
