Two doctors at a sterilisation camp in Bhadohi allegedly left without completing the procedure, following which irate villagers blocked road and beat up the CMO who had come to placate them, the police said on Wednesday.

The incident took place on Tuesday at Community Health Centre, Gopiganj, when two doctors,  Ramesh Chandra and Azha Asif, started sterilization process of four women but left without completing it, citing lack of time as the reason, the police said.

Enraged relatives of the women blocked the Allahabad- Varanasi Highway. When Chief Medical Officer Zubair Ahmad reached the spot to pacify the villagers, he was beaten up, following which he fainted, they said, adding that he was rescued by Chief Medical Superintendent Rajiv Kumar Sinha.

Ahmad told reporters that action had been initiated against the two doctors. Recommendation of suspension of Ramesh has been forwarded to the concerned authorities, while process to terminate the contract of Asif has been started, he said.
