BANGALORE: Karnataka Chalanachitra Academy on Monday announced the list of films which will be screened during the 4th Bengaluru International Film Festival 2011 scheduled to be held from December 15 to 22.Speaking to media persons, H N Narahari Rao, the Artistic Director of the film festival said that a total of 179 films will be screened during the festival.“The week-long film festival will have films from all over the world. There is a wide variety of films which are categorised into Indian Cinema, World Cinema, Asian films, etc.A number of Kannada films are also being screened during the festival.” ‘Gaggara’, a Tulu film will also be screened in order to introduce the Tulu film industry to mainstream Indian cinema, he stated. Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda will inaugurate the film festival.Actors Om Puri and Anant Nag will be the guests of honour on the occasion.A movie screening has also been planned after the inaugural function.A special category titled ‘Political Cinema’ is the highlight of the festival.Films like The Battle of Algiers, Z, The Whistleblower, Air India 182 and many others will be screened.As many as nine political cinemas have been lined up for the event.Retrospective cinema is also a new category of films being explored as a part of the film festival.The films in this category are The Trojan Women, The Cherry Orchard, The Weeping Meadow along with 34 such films. Other activities planned for the week will include 4 masterclasses and seminars for the masses attending the film festival. The festival committee is also considering to pay a tribute to Late Dev Anand during the course of the film festival. Academy President T S Nagabharana and members of the organising committee were present.
