Indore: ‘Beer Yoga’, the new fitness craze globally, created a controversy in Indore after people opposed an event supposed to be held on Sunday.

The invite for the programme said that by paying Rs 500 anyone could perform yoga while sipping beer at a hotel in the city. The invites have been making rounds in social media for the last few days.

Various religious and cultural organizations opposed to the word yoga being clubbed with beer and approached the police.

“On the complaint of various organisations, we summoned the event organisers on Saturday and sought the licence for serving liquor which they could not furnish,” DIG Indore Harinarayanchari Mishra told News18 over the phone, adding that the organisers promised to cancel the event.

The police, however, did not book anyone as the event never took place.

The organisers sent messages to invitees on Saturday informing them about the cancellation of the event and apologizing for hurting sentiments.

The hotel which was supposed to host the event also sent out messages on social media about the cancellation.

Rajesh Bidkar, the convener of Bhagwa Brigade, which was among organisations that approached the police, said, “Yoga signifies sadhna and dhyan and linking it to liquor is completely improper.”

‘Beer Yoga’ originated in Germany and has created a buzz among fitness freaks globally.
