BCCI cracks the whip on Ganguly
The former skipper along with Sehwag, Kumble and Parthiv have been instructed by the BCCI to play Ranji Trophy matches.

New Delhi: Sourav Ganguly might have decided to skip the Ranji Trophy tournament after being selected for the tour to Pakistan but he along with Virender Sehwag, Anil Kumble and Parthiv Patel have been instructed by the BCCI to play the next round of Ranji Trophy matches starting January 3.

The decision was taken after consultation with the board President Sharad Pawar, Chairman of the Selection Committee Kiran More, Coach Greg Chappel and Captain Rahul Dravid.

The players will join the team in Pakistan on January 7 after the completion of the tournament.

While, Sehwag, Kumble and Parthiv Patel are already playing for their respective Ranji teams, Ganguly had decided to skip the tourney.

His decision was later questioned by Selection Committee Chairman Kiran More and the board also sought a reply from the deposed captain.

The issue was apparently settled after Ganguly explained his decision to the board, which expressed satisfaction over the reply.

Even the BCCI Secretary Niranjan Shah had earlier on Tuesady said that the Board was satisfied with the cricketers' reply that he skipped Bengal's Ranji match against Gujarat owing to family reasons.

"Ganguly has replied to the mail sent to him. He said that he could not participate in the ongoing Ranji match between Bengal and Gujarat due to family reasons. We have accepted his answer and forwarded it to the Chairman of National Selector," Shah said.

Earlier More had shot off a leter to Shah seeking an explanation that was again sent to Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) to be forwarded to Ganguly.
