Balurghat (West Bengal): A Bangladeshi woman, who approached the Calcutta High Court for the release of her five-year-old son from a local jail where he was lodged with his father, on Wednesday was reunited with him after almost six months.
At the instruction of South Dinajpur District Magistrate Tapas Chowdhury, Balurghat correctional home authorities handed over Farhad (5) to Ruma Beghum who had moved the Calcutta High Court to get back her son.
District administration sources said a group of 16 Bangladeshis had tried to enter India illegally through Hili Border but all of them were arrested on February 26 and sentenced to imprisonment for two years.
One of them was Tamijuddin who had his son, Farhad, with him. As the boy's age was below five years at the time, he was sent to jail with his father, sources said.
Three months later, Ruma Beghum came to India legally and moved the district court to get back her son.
After her defeat there, she moved the Calcutta High Court and Justice Sanjeeb Bandyopadhyay ordered the South Dinajpur DM last week to make arrangements for returning Farhad to his mother, the sources said.
After the completion of necessary paper work on Tuesday, the correctional home authorities returned Farhad to his mother on Wednesday.
