New Delhi: Even as Mohammed Haneef returns home, amidst fanfare and a warm welcome, things are not as happy as they seem.
In an uncomfortable turn of events, another Indian doctor, who worked with Haneef in Gold Coast, has been suspended from duty after he was interrogated by the police in connection withe the failed UK terror attacks.
A Queensland Health spokeswoman was quoted by news agency PTI as saying that Haneef's colleague, Mohamed Ali, had been suspended with pay after receiving information from Queensland Police.
However, the hospital's Director General, Uschi Schreiber, has said that the allegations against Ali are not related to terrorism.
According to Australian media, the matter had been referred to the Crime and Misconduct Commission and the Medical Board of Queensland.
Meanwhile, Mohammad Haneef - suspected of links with the accused in the failed UK terror attacks - has returned home to India after being cleared of all charges in Australia.
However, Australian Prime Minister, John Howard - whose government has come under attack for 'framing' Haneef - has said that Australia does not owe an apology to anyone for detaining Haneef.
"It's better to be safe than sorry (as far as terrorism is concerned)," Howard said.
Haneef was charged with recklessly providing support to a "terror group" in the form of a mobile phone SIM card.
