New Delhi: A delegation of industry chamber Assocham, led by its newly-elected president Rajkumar Dhoot along with DLF chief KP Singh, will meet the Prime Minister on Tuesday over the impact of Supreme Court judgement cancelling 2G licences.
"The meeting with the Prime Minister will cover issues related to the industry overall and in particular the development after the Supreme Court cancelling 122 2G licences," a source said.
Swati Piramal will also be the part of the delegation which will meet Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Tuesday.
The meeting comes in the backdrop of industry players seeking clarifications over the Supreme Court judgement.
The Supreme Court on February 2 ordered to cancel 122 telecom licences allocated in January 2008, which included licences of telecom operators Uninor (joint venture between Unitech and Telenor of Norway), Loop Telecom, Sistema Shyam (joint venture between Shyam and Sistema of Russia), Etisalat DB (joint venture between Swan and Etisalat of UAE), S Tel, Videocon, Tatas and Idea.
The government has filed the review petition questioning its verdict holding as unconstitutional the policy of first-come-first-served in allocation of 2G spectrum saying it has entered into the exclusive domain of the executive and beyond the limits of judicial review.
It has contended the apex court's prescription of a single method for distribution of all natural resources, including spectrum, through "auction" route is contrary to the principle of separation of powers embodied in the Constitution.
Telecom companies, Idea Cellular, Tata Teleservices Sistema Shyam TeleServices Limited (SSTL) and Uninor have also sought review of the verdict cancelling its licenses.
In the review petitions, while SSTL said it is being unfairly penalised for acting in good faith and in reliance on the appropriateness of the procedures established by the government, Uninor pleaded the order would have adverse consequences for its licence holders and stakeholders.
