New Delhi: Ashoka India, World's leading organization for social entrepreneurship and change making organised the two-day Changemaker Conclave, where representatives from some of the country’s most innovative schools and pioneering social entrepreneurs in education, came together.
The conclave, a part of 'Ashoka Changemaker Schools' program launched by Ashoka Innovators for the Public in 2014 in India, provided a platform for principals, teachers, students and parents from Changemaker schools to interact and engage with social entrepreneurs across the country who are pioneering new approaches to education.
Ashoka India has recognised ten schools as Changemaker Schools that enable all students to become changemakers- the youth, with the skills and confidence to change society towards development. These schools irrespective of their size or scope, are pioneers in the field of innovation and leadership and have been selected from across the country based on their commitment to influence and help others at large in the education sector. The Change Team in these schools comprise of teachers, parents, students and others who are entrepreneurial and share a vision of Everyone a Changemaker.
The schools recognised by Ashoka India as a Changemaker School include- Digantar Vidyalaya, Jaipur, Riverside School, Ahmedabad, RN Poddar School, Mumbai, KCT Vidyaniketan, Pune, TVS Academy, Hosur, Vidyodaya School, Gudalur, Headstart Learning Centre, Chennai, Uday Community School, Sawai Madhopur, Muni International School, Delhi and The Heritage School, Gurgaon.
Speaking at the event, Vishnu Swaminathan, South Asia Representative, Leadership Group Member, Ashoka said, "Ashoka as an organisation believes in the vision of Everyone a Changemaker and focuses on building peer networks. Be it adults or children. With the Changemaker Schools initiative we are striving to change mind-sets and catalyse changes through schools and across the wider ecosystem- so that we provide every child with environments and experiences that exclusively designed to foster changmaking skills. We believe that these students will become champions of change benefiting the community."
The initiative aims to find, connect and empower schools that are at the forefront of innovating in education, and enabling their students to reach their full potential by helping them develop a full range of skills including empathy, thoughtfulness, creativity, leadership and teamwork.
Joining hands with the Changemakers Schools at the event were eminent thought partners such as Dr Parag Mankeekar, Founder Niti Solutions, Ashraf Patel, Pravah, Sweta Anand Arora, Education Alliance, Darshan Bhat, Creatnet and Harsha Mahabala, Edutel. Interactive workshops were also conducted by Neelam Pol, Khel Planet, Prakhar Bhartia, Youth Alliance and Reshma Valliappan, Red Door.
Emphasising the need for such initiatives, Dr Parag Mankeekar, Founder Niti Solutions said, "Changemaker Schools initiative has come at a right time. With the ever changing world, there is a rise of complexity and uncertainty. The global ecosystem is constantly being redefined. Children will be the future changemakers and initiatives such as this go a long way in empowering them with the right skills to bring about development in the society in a dynamic environment."
The purpose of the programme is to improve learning for children and youth through the provision of playful, empowering and innovative learning experiences – learning that focuses on developing the whole human being and fostering sustainable societal development. At present the programme is present across the globe in countries such as Venezuela, UK, USA, Uganda, Turkey, Brazil, Spain and Sweden.
