CHENNAI: A 30-year-old labourer from Andhra Pradesh died in hospital on Saturday after the scaffolding of an under-construction building collapsed at Ice House. The police have arrested the owner of the building.Police said labourers Rathinam alias Rathaiyya (30) of Nellore, Andhra Pradesh, and Srinivasan were working at the construction site when the scaffolding of the building collapsed and fell on them on Friday afternoon. Both the labourers were admitted to GGH where Rathinam died.Police sources said the building owner, Raju, employed as a clerk in a bank, wanted to construct a third floor in the building located on Goya Arunagiri Fourth Street and had erected the scaffolding. Three pedestrians, Latha, Zackaria and Raghavan, who were passing by the spot at the time of the accident, also sustained minor injures.Pedestrian DiesA sexagenarian pedestrian died after a two-wheeler hit him at Anna Nagar traffic police limits on Friday. Police said Amirthalingam (60) of Arumbakkam was crossing EVR Periyar Road when a two-wheeler hit him. He was admitted to hospital where he died. Police are investigating.
