New Delhi: Two anti-terror laws will be discussed in Parliament on Wednesday.
MPs will discuss the National Investigation Agency Bill and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Amendment (UAPA) Bill.
At the heart of the debate on POTA versus the new amended UAPA is the controversial provision of admitting confessions made to police officers as evidence.
The onus of innocence is on the accused if arms and explosives are recovered.
The UPA is expecting to have both these bills passed at the earliest, given that the opposition BJP is more or less supporting them, although with slight reservations.
While the Home Ministry is downsizing the security, a bill to amend the existing Central Industrial Security Force Act and the CRPF acts is coming up for approval in Parliament on Wednesday.
The CISF act is being reviewed in keeping with the Centre's focus on tackling terror.
If the Cabinet approves of the bill, private companies, particularly those involved in the refineries and IT sectors, will be allowed to employ paramilitary force personnel to protect their sites.
The issue was first raised after Reliance's Jamnagar refinery in Gujarat asked for anti-air craft guns to fend off possible threats to its security because of its proximity to the Pakistan border.
