Anti-dowry pledge for students

BHUBANESWAR: Students of schools and colleges in the State will now take an anti-dowry pledge. The two education departments of the State Government have circulated instructions to the institutions to administer the pledge to the students as per the amendment to the Orissa Dowry Prohibition Rules, 2000.As per the Section 8 (C)(3)(iii) of Orissa Dowry Prohibition (Amendment) Rules, 2010, a pledge shall be administered to the students in schools and colleges and other institutions not to give or take dowry.After the amendment was notified last year, the Woman and Child Development Department recently issued a circular to the School and Mass Education and Higher Education departments.The two departments, in turn, have written to all the schools and colleges as well as universities to administer the pledge to their students.
