HYDERABAD: The Labour department set to crack the whip on outlets which hire child labourers below the age of 15 years.  The department will initiate a special drive with assistance from the NGOs MV Foundation and Divya Disha on Monday at 11 a.m from Chermas, MG Road in Secunderabad. The drive is part of the plan to make Secunderabad into a Child Labour Free Zone. S Naresh Kumar, deputy commissioner of labour, Hyderabad, who initiated the novel programme said they are all set to make Secunderabad, where more than 1,000 business establishments including traders, small hotels and mechanic shops are engaging more than 500 child labourers, as child labour free. “We will check all shops and business establishments in the area and impose fine of up to `10,000 including three months imprisonment for anyone found employing children,” he added. He said they would also distribute pamphlets and paste posters creating awareness among traders to prevent child labour. The department has also made arrangements to rehabilitate rescued child labourers.
