THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A contingent of 29 cadets comprising 22 SD and seven SW cadets from No.1 Kerala Air Sqn NCC left for Bangalore the other day for the All-India Vayu Sainik Camp (AIVSC). These cadets from the Kerala & Lakshadweep directorate will be competing with cadets from 16 other directorates in various disciplines. The camp, which began on October 30, will conclude on November 11. “Cadets from No.1 Kerala Air Sqn NCC have been undergoing rigorous training with focused aim and objective for the last 45 days in all the disciplines and are resolute to achieve first position in all the events,” Wg Cdr D Sendhil Kumar the commanding officer of the squadron said. The contingent comprises cadets, both Senior Division boys and girls, who have been imparted training in flying, flying-related subjects, firing both skeet and .22, tent pitching, drill, line area, aero-modelling (static & flying) and health and hygiene. This is the last year that No.1 Kerala Air sqn, being the only air sqn NCC unit in the state, is sending AIVSC contingent all by themselves. From next year onwards, the second unit, No. 3 Air Sqn NCC unit based at Ernakulam, which is just in its infancy, will also start fielding its cadets for competition. The best among the two units will make it for the AIVSC henceforth.
