Lucknow: In an attempt mobilize support for her candidature, Opposition’s Presidential candidate Meira Kumar reached Lucknow on Friday and met top political leaders of the state. She started her Lucknow tour by meeting with BSP Supremo Maywati at her residence; BSP General Secretary Satish Chandra Mishra was also present on the occasion.
Post this meeting, Meira Kumar met UP Congress Chief Raj Babbar along with Congress MP Pramod Tiwari and leader Shakeel Ahmad. She then went on to meet Samajwadi Party National President Akhilesh Yadav.
The rebel Samajwadi leader and uncle of Akhilesh Yadav, Shivpal Yadav has once again given a hint at cross voting in the Presidential elections. Speaking to ETV in Varansi on Friday, he said, “Till now only Ram Nath Kovind has met me for support and vote for the Presidential election. Rest, Neta Ji (Mulayam Singh Yadav) will decide on who should be voted for the post of the President of India.”
On the other hand, another uncle of Akhilesh Yadav, Ram Gopal Yadav has said that Meira Kumar is a better candidate than NDA Government’s presidential candidate Ramnath Kovind. “Her (Meira Kumar) stature is high and has been the speaker, minister and Lok Sabha member. Being the daughter of Babu Jagjivan Ram, the entire country knows her well. The opposition candidate is better than the candidate announced by the government,” he said.
Earlier NDA’s Presidential candidate, Ram Nath Kovind has also come to Lucknow to vouch for support for himself. Kovind, started his campaign from Lucknow, where as Meira Kumar started her campaign from Uttarakhand.
Significantly, there are 47 MLAs in the Samajwadi Party's Assembly, while Bahujan Samaj Party has 19 MLAs and seven MLAs from Congress. Through this meeting Meira Kumar has appealed all the leaders to vote in the favour of UPA.
