TIRUPUR: An AIADMK functionary was attacked by a gang with wooden logs here in the wee hours of Sunday. According to police, Thambi Ibrahim (48), a resident of Susaiyapuram in Tirupur, is involved in garment business and runs a shop at Kadharpet. Ibrahim is also the district secretary of the party’s minority wing. When Ibrahim was returning home on his motorcycle at around 1.30 am on Sunday, he was waylaid near Nanjappa Boys Higher Secondary School junction by a gang. The members of the gang attacked Ibrahim with wooden logs and he sustained severe injuries on his head and fractures on his right hand and leg. Immediately after the attack, the gang fled on motorcycles. On getting information, AIADMK supporters rescued Ibrahim and admitted him at the Tirupur District Headquarters Hospital. Tirupur North Police registered a case. Police suspect that Ibrahim was attacked by his political rivals.
