Agra: In a heartbreaking story from Agra, a man wrote to President Pranab Mukherjee seeking euthanasia for all his 6 children aged between 8 to 18 years.
Children have been diagnosed with a rare debilitating neurological disorder and it has almost paralysed their lower bodies and affected their voice and vision. The disease is curable but the man cannot afford the treatment.
Mohd Nazir, father, said, "In 2-3 years my children will no longer be able to walk. They will live out their lives in pain. I don't want this for them."
The local administration has now sent a team of doctors to examine the children
The demand has once again raised the debate on euthanasia. Euthanasia is an act of intentionally ending a life to end pain in the case of terminally ill patients or those in a persistent vegetative state.
Passive euthanasia - withdrawing life support of patients in a persistent vegetative state - is, however, legal in India.
