New Delhi: Four reported cases of acid attacks on young women in the past 12 days in the New Usmanpur area in the north-east Delhi has left the residents feeling nervous.

The latest victim, a 21-year-old school teacher, who while leaving for work early Tuesday morning, was attacked with an acidic substance by an unidentified man from behind.

This is not the first incident for this neighbourhood. Locals say, in the last one month alone, 9 women have been attacked in similar way.

Many girls in the neighbourhood narrate similar stories.

While police is trying to nab the culprit, the unidentified assailant still roams free.

Deputy Commissioner of police (DCP) north-east zone SS Yadav says, “We are taking all steps to ensure that the person is caught and action will be taken.”

The police haven't got any clear evidence against the culprit but one thing is certain, a fear has crept into the minds of women living in this area.

Just a week ago, 12-year-old Zaveria was on her way to school when a man threw acid on her back. She was lucky to escape with minor injuries.

The young girls of this locality are even scared to go out of the house now.

The residents have requested for a thorough investigation into the matter.
