BHUBANESWAR: The Health Department on Friday sent a word of caution to medical officers (MO) who have not been staying at their place of posting. Warning them of disciplinary action, the Department said their action is affecting health care service. In a letter to all Collectors and Chief District Medical Officers, the Department said it has learnt that some MOs are not staying at the headquarters where they are posted. What was a matter of concern that the officers were not even staying at the government accommodations provided to them. While health services are affected by their absence, non-occupation at the government quarters has led to theft of furniture and valuables and damage to the structures. In the last Heath Mission meeting, the members had even alleged that doctors were attending the health institutions in rural and tribal areas on rotation basis. In the recent Public Accounts Committee as well as Petitions Committee too, similar feelings were echoed and strong action were suggested against the doctors for not staying at the headquarters and attending duty on rotation basis. The National Human Rights Commission too has taken strong exception to the trend, the Health Department said and instructed that all MOs are bound to stay at their headquarters and occupy government accommodation wherever available. HRA will not be admissible if government accommodation is available but they are not being occupied.Any violation will draw severe disciplinary action by the Government, it added.
