Though the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) is going ahead with its plans to open the motorbays of the Ernakulam North Rail Overbridge (RoB) by October-end, the Corporation is yet to take a decision on the encroachments to complete the approach road. Further, the DMRC has asked for four cents of land more from the side of Ernakulam Town Hall for the project. The civic body has already given eight cents of land in front of the Town Hall for the Metro Rail.
Meanwhile, the authorities have reached a consensus with the owner of the petrol pump near the SRM Road and accordingly the latter will hand over 3.5 cents of land for the service road.
“The service road was required for the vehicles from the SRM Road as the landing of the newly-constructed motor bay will block the existing entry. Last week a site inspection was conducted by a team led by District Collector and has sorted out the issue,” said a Corporation official.
Approach Roads
Regarding the issues related to the widening of the approach roads of the bridge, the official said that the civic body will hold discussions with the shop owners.
“Earlier, we have instructed the shop owners to clear the encroachments for widening the approach roads. But they were not ready to cooperate. Now, we have convened another meeting,” the official said.
The encroachments on the SRM Road, Lisie Road and Paramara Road need to be cleared to ensure free flow of vehicles once the side bays are opened.
Permanent Rehab
Meanwhile, the Corporation is yet to provide a permanent rehabilitation facility to the vendors who were evicted from under the North RoB when the construction began last year. These vendors were given temporary facility on the land owned by the civic body on Paramara Road.
The initial plan was to rehabilitate them under the Pulleppady bridge. But that project did not materialise.
Hence a section of civic representatives is against the decision to undertake the responsibility of evicting some of the traders unless the district administration came out with a proper rehabilitation plan.
