The city police on Monday arrested six suspected robbers, and claimed that their gang had looted several businessmen in the past months. Four country-made pistols, cartridges, 19 diamond rings, Rs 14.5 lakh in cash, a stolen car, a tempo and two scooters were seized from their possession, a police officer said.
The gang members have been identified as Tahir and Ajay of Delhi; Zahid Malik, Alam, Parvej, and Yakub of Ghaziabad. All the accused are aged between 23 and 38 years. The accused would gather the details about city-based businessmen's earnings and visits to banks, and then loot them at gunpoint, the officer said.
On December 1, the accused had robbed a jeweller, Gaurav, of jewellery worth lakhs of rupees in Siyani Gate area. They also shot at Gaurav when he resisted their attempt. Similarly, the gang had on November 18 robbed businessman Sanjay Singhal of lakhs of rupees and also shot at him.
"Acting on a tip-off, we today arrested the six accused from Raj Nagar Extension of district. They used to visit industrial areas and select their target. We are interrogating them about their accomplices," the officer said.
