As much as 42 percent of the deaths in the state are due to lifestyle diseases, said Health Minister V S Sivakumar.
He was speaking at the inaugural session of the workshop on Health Awareness organised by the Field Publicity Directorate of the Union Broadcasting Ministry and the State Health Department. “Everyone should actively participate in the fight against lifestyle diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, hypertension, paralysis and cancer,” said the Minister. “Most of the people who are affected by the lifestyle disease are aged between 30 and 60. Overeating, lack of exercise, alcohol and smoking should be avoided,” he added. The workshop focused on several health issues such as immunisation, safe birth and HIV and several experts presented papers on the subject.
