New Delhi: The MP police have charged four more ABVP activists for the death of Prof HS Sabharwal of Government Madhav College in Ujjain. Two top ABVP leaders -- Shashi Ranjan Singh 'Akela' and Vimal Tomar -- had been arrested in connection with the case earlier.
The four ABVP activists were booked on Thursday. They were identified as Vishal Rajoria, Hemant Dubey, Sudhir Yadav and Pankaj Mishra. Police also seized some property belonging to the ABVP activists.
The new arrests came even as the family of Prof Sabharwal moved the Supreme Court seeking a CBI investigation into the incidents, alleging that Madhya Pradesh Government was not holding an impartial probe.
Prof Sabharwal died on August 26 after being assaulted by some student union leaders in Ujjain for the postponement of the elections for the college students' union. Currently, the CID of the state police has been investigating the case.
The professor's son, Himanshu, filed the petition in SC, which has fixed September 25 for its hearing. Senior advocate Vivek Tanka sought early hearing on the issue submitting that the Sabharwal family was compelled to approach the apex court for handing over the
investigation to the CBI as the state police was trying to shield some accused.
The petition said that the state government was no ready to accept that the victim died as a result of the assault by the union leaders. Instead, the leader of the ruling party in the state had been reportedly making statements in favour of the accused.
