136 sovereigns stolen from house

COIMBATORE: The police here have arrested a tutor and his wife on Wednesday after they allegedly sneaked around 136 sovereigns of jewellery from the house of one of their students.Police said Kannan and his wife Fathima had stolen the jewellery from the house of one K S Kannan (complainant) where they are taking evening tuition for his son.  Recently, the complainant had left the house and asked Fathima to take care of their child and handed over the keys of almirah and the house to her. When they returned on Tuesday, Kannan found 136 sovereigns of jewellery, worth `28 lakh, kept in the almirah were missing.  “We suspect the couple to have stolen the jewellery,” said a police officer.On receipt of complaint, Thudiyalur police arrested the couple.Further investigation are on with the couple. Efforts are also on to recover the stolen jewellery from them.
