Ahmedabad: Eleven students of the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Ahmedabad, have opted out of final placement, which began on Thursday, to start their own ventures.

These students plan to start their ventures in areas as diverse as logistics, manufacturing, advertising, finance and agro-processing in addition to information technology.

One of the budding entrepreneurs, Nageshwar VG Neela, is planning to enter the agro-processing industry.

"I think that the kind of growth our economy is witnessing, it makes more sense to invest the time and efforts in entrepreneurship and reap its benefits," Neela said.

Nirmal Kumar has started his venture in out-of-home advertising business by the name of Nirmal Prachaar Pvt Ltd. His idea is to come up with different concepts providing maximum visibility to brands.

Another budding entrepreneur, Ranjith Ajaykumar, is planning to launch a series of consumer-based websites.

"This shows new spirit of independence, risk-taking, innovation and confidence in IIM-A graduates," IIM-A Professor Vasant Gandhi said. "What is striking is the diversity of ideas pursued. This gives confidence that India is clearly on the rise," he said.

IIM-A is also playing a part in promoting this trend by floating a policy of placement holiday, which allows graduating students, who choose entrepreneurship as a career option, to participate in the institute's placement process for two years after passing out.

Meanwhile, representatives of top multinational companies, including Google, are here to conduct campus interview to select IIM-A graduates.
