Movies have the power to leave an indelible impact on the minds of the viewers. They not only make us think, but also play an instrumental role in changing the way we think. And filmmaker Vishal Bhardwaj does exactly the same with his projects. His films not only open up a new world of possibilities, but also hit us on an intellectual level. This is not to say that his films don't entertain us, they do even as they put forth a different outlook to life, social beliefs and political ideologies. Like most of his previous projects, 'Haider' also delves deeper into political issues and conflicts, and shows Vishal's obsession with the grim and the gritty. If the dark setup and pulsing background score of 'Haider' echoes the despair of Kashmir, its hard-hitting dialogues elucidate the pain the natives have been experiencing for years.
Shahid Kapoor: Yeh chup-chup ke naach gaana pehle bhi hota tha ke abhi-abhi shuru hua hai... babuji ke baad (Shaken by his father's sudden disappearance Shahid can't hide his disgust when he spots his mother Tabu singing while his uncle Kay Kay Menon appreciates her talent.)
Cops to Shahid: Tu bhi disappear ho jayega, aapne baap ki tarah (As Shahid Kapoor makes constant efforts to locate his father, he is told that he will also be subjected to same treatment.)
Tabu: Disappeared logo ki biwiyaan aadhi bewa kehlati hai, half widows(This is a grim way to put forth the condition of women in the valley. Women whose husbands are abducted are called half widows.)
Shraddha Kapoor: I have lov-ed you more than my life (Shraddha Kapoor's Kashmiri accent might not be convincing, but this dialogue remains memorable.)
Shahid Kapoor: Maa jab jhooth bole na, nahi acchi lagti(To have a son say that his parent is difficult)
Shahid Kapoor: Dil ki agar sunu toh tu hai... Dimag ki sunu toh tu hai nahi. Jaan lun ki Jaan dun? Main rahoon ki main nahi (This explains the complex situation of Shahid.)
Shahid kapoor's father: Haider, mera inteqaam lena mere bhai se... uski un dono aakh mei gooliyaan daagna, jin aakho se usne tumhari maa par fareb daale the (This statement makes Shahid avenge his father's death.)
Tabu: Vaishi bhediya ban gaya shukar hai asteen ka saamp nahi bana (Tabu is happy that his son hasn't betrayed anyone.)
Shahid Kapoor: Aap elections ladne ki taiyaari kijiye chacha, meri ladayi toh shuru ho chuki hai (Shahid warns Kay Kay Menon of the consequences he'll have to face for killing his father).
Tabu: Agar doctor sahab mujhe chootey bhi they toh ladta tha tu.
Shahid: Aura ab toh unke bhai aapko chutey hain Ab kya karoon main?
(Shahid takes a dig at Tabu when she talks about his possessive nature. Irked by Tabu's closeness to his uncle, Shahid asks her now that his uncle
touches her, is there anything that he can do?
