Vikramjit Singh made a remarkable start to the chase. The 20-year-old opener showed his mettle in front of the formidable Pakistani pace attack. He scored 52 runs off 67 deliveries, a knock laced with four boundaries and one six. Bas des Leede shone with the bat as well. The Dutch all-rounder smashed six fours and two maximums during his 68-run innings.
Meanwhile, most of the New Zealand batters were untested in the first match. England batted first and set a worth-fighting target of 283 runs. Though it was looking like a 50-50 situation, Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra altered the equation with a devastating show. After opener Will Young returned for a golden duck, Conway and Ravindra racked up a 273-run partnership to secure a 9-wicket victory.
