Lionel Messi is a name that draws attention. Pair that with the likes of a former teammate of his from his Barcelona days, and what you have is mayhem waiting to ensue. That is exactly what happened as fans in El Salvador swarmed the team bus of Inter Miami in hopes of getting to catch a glimpse of the iconic Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez, as the MLS side had arrived to play their friendly against El Salvador in the first match of their preseason tour.
With their star attacking duo of Suarez and Messi getting the nod from the beginning of the match, it set high expectations for the countless fans who had flocked to the stadium in hopes of watching the pair relive their Barcelona days. Tata Martino rolled out a near full-strength XI, with a few rotated players and a makeshift central defender in Deandre Yedlin in his 5-3-2 formation. Regardless, though, it’s a top XI for the MLS side.

Lionel Messi has enjoyed a Barcelona reunion since joining Major League Soccer franchise Inter Miami, enjoying the chance to play with two of his favourite teammates again.
Messi’s arrival at the David Beckham-owned club last summer transformed the fortunes of the team, winning the Leagues Cup – a midseason tournament played between American and Mexican teams – to deliver Miami’s first piece of silverware just weeks after his arrival.
Messi was and is undoubtedly their marquee signing, but he was not the only top sigining. The Herons went on a hunt to rekindle the magic of a Barcelona that once was, as they signed on the likes of ex-Barcelona teammates Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba as well to the side.
The last piece of the puzzle to be added was none other that Luis Suarez.
The notorious Uruguayan ran riot all across the globe, banging in goals all over and his exploits were no feat to dismiss. Two European Golden Shoes, an Eredivisie Golden Boot, a Premier League Golden Boot, and a Pichichi trophy. All of it belongs to one Luis Suarez. But, one of his most memorable stints was that of his time with the Blaugranas.
Suárez and Messi spent six seasons together at Barcelona, winning four Spanish league titles and nine other trophies — including a Champions League title — in that span. Suárez is coming off a year where he was best player and best striker in the Brazilian league with Gremio, but has ailing knees, is turning 37 in a couple weeks and is entering his 19th professional season.
