New Delhi: A trophy-magnet during his playing days, Pele has never shied away from the footballing world in his retirement, and on Friday spoke out about his love for English clubs and, in particular, the teams that have been witness to extended periods of great success, such as the Liverpool side of the 1970s and 1980s, and the Manchester United team of the 1990s and 2000s.
He then went on to declare that the Premier League is the "most exciting league" in the world.
The Brazil icon informed Sport magazine, "I have always liked English teams."
"In the 1970s ad 80s I was a Liverpool fan. I don't know why, perhaps because they were the top team back then. In the last ten or 15 years I have enjoyed following Manchester United the most," he said.
"They play the game the right way and, in Brazil, Manchester United are far and away the most popular team. The Premier League is the most exciting league to watch in the world, there's no doubt about that at all."
