Manchester: Patrice Evra has declared that, while Manchester United look likely to lose their Premier League crown to rivals Manchester City, talk of a demise and a lowering of standards is somewhat premature.
United head into the final day of the season needing QPR to do them a favour at Eastlands, with their cross-city rivals odds-on favourites to lift the trophy on Sunday afternoon. The club currently trail Roberto Mancini's side on goal difference, with only one game remaining in the season.
Such a scenario would ensure a trophyless season for the Red Devils, but Evra believes that it would be not the end of the United era - nor does he feel that manager Sir Alex Ferguson needs to oversee a major summer overhaul of his squad.
"I know that if we don't win the league, then a lot of people will say this is the end of the empire and ask how we will survive. But there is a lot of talent at this club," the France defender told reporters.
"We've had to deal with a lot through injuries and losing experienced players last summer and it's never easy to find a solution immediately."
United have one game remaining against Sunderland, needing to better City's result against QPR on Sunday to win the title.
