While both Real Madrid and Liverpool are doing their best in training to prepare for the massive UEFA Champions League final at Kiev on May 26th, Reds coach Jurgen Klopp is of the opinion that the defending champions’ weakness likely lies on the left side of defense which is occupied by the Brazilian Marcelo.
Real Madrid with Marcelo in their line-up have won three UEFA Champions League titles along with three FIFA Club World Cup titles alongside 12 other titles which includes four La Liga titles as well.
In an interview with former Liverpool forward Robbie Fowler for the Mirror, the German coach Klopp said, "Marcelo is a player who attacks a lot, but... he doesn't defend."
“But it does not always work like that in football. If Marcelo joins the attack from our right, that will leave Mohamed Salah in space,” Klopp added.
Klopp and Liverpool will be banking heavily on the prolific trio of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane to keep them ahead in what promises to be a final with goals as neither side have been in the best of defensive health.
Klopp further pointed out that Real Madrid have played well rather than being lucky in their road to the final which has them now on the brink of a historic hat-trick of UEFA Champions League titles.
"Everyone says that Real Madrid had luck eliminating Juventus and Bayern, but it is the third year in a row that they are in a final, and the fourth in five years," Klopp said.
"They need four chances to score twice, and in the semi-finals Bayern needed eight to score one," he said.
"We will do everything we can in the final and it will be decided in the decisive moments when the opportunity arises."
If Real Madrid win the UEFA Champions League, it will mean both European football’s trophies will have been claimed by Madrid clubs.
