The government offers numerous fellowship and scholarship programmes for individuals seeking higher education. The National Fellowship is among them. The monthly stipend under this fellowship is Rs 42,000/-. According to the government, 1070 OBC students have benefited from the National Fellowship for OBCs throughout the past year. In response to a query during the winter session, Pratibha Bhowmik, the minister of state for social justice and empowerment, provided this information. The National Fellowship for OBC’s goal is to support OBC students doing MPhils and PhDs at universities, research centres, and scientific institutes. JRFs receive Rs 37,000 and SRFs receive Rs 42,000 per month under this scholarship. There is a five-year fellowship period. The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment said that each year, National Fellowships are awarded to 1000 OBC students. comprising 250 UGC CSIR NET passers and 750 UGC NET passers.
For National Fellowship, OBC students should be enrolled in regular, full-time M.Phil/Ph.D in the field of Science, Social Sciences or Engineering. Also, the family income should not exceed Rs 6 lakhs.
Funding and Facility in National Fellowship
Rs 37,000/- per month for the first two years of JRF
Rs 42,000/- per month for the remaining period of SRF
Rs 2000/- per month for additional escort/reader for disabled student
For Science and Engineering students, an amount of Rs 12,000 is given for the first two years. After this, an allowance of Rs 25,000 is available for the remaining three years. At the same time, students of social sciences and humanities get a contingency grant of Rs 10,000 for the first two years and Rs 20,500 for the remaining three years.
