The Chief Minister of Bihar, Nitish Kumar has started the Medal Lao Aur Naukri Pao Yojna. Under this scheme, sportspersons in Bihar who secure medals in the national and international games will be given government jobs. Now, benefiting from the scheme, Shweta Shahi – a rugby player from Nalanda district of Bihar – has been recruited at the post of Sub Inspector. Along with her, the two disciples of Shweta Shahi — Dharamsheela Kumari and Priyanka Kumari – have also received the job of Sub-inspector. Under this scheme, Bihar CM Nitish Kumar awarded the government job to 71 sportspersons of Bihar.
Shweta Shahi, daughter of Sujit Kumar Shahi, resident of Bhadari, Silav block of Nalanda district, was passionate about rugby since 2010. She gradually participated in the Asian Rugby Games and won silver and gold medals. Apart from this, she has also participated in many other rugby games and received medals. After winning the medals, Shweta Shahi also started to spread awareness about the sport among the youngsters. Her two students, Dharamsheela Kumari and Priyanka Kumari, started playing district level rugby in 2018, while studying at Ras Bihari High School in Nalanda. Both of them got the job of Sub-inspector under Medal Laao Naukari Pao Yojna.
According to the information, Sweta Shahi has won several medals during her career as a Rugby player. She won the gold medal in the Senior Junior National Games in 2019 and 2022. She has also won the international silver medal in the Asian Championship Rugby Games, which were held in Uzbekistan and Kathmandu in Nepal. Sweta Shahi also won a bronze medal in the National Games which were held in Gujarat. She recently won a silver medal in the National Rugby Game held in Goa in 2023.
On January 6, CM Nitish Kumar and Deputy CM Tejashwi Yadav had handed over appointment letters to 71 players of the state under this scheme. Among 71, two players were awarded the position of an officer, which include Child Development Project Officer and Block Panchayati Raj Officer. This scheme has led to an increase in employment in Bihar.
