Failures are often called the pillars of success and Umashankar hailing from Madhubani in Bihar is perhaps the living epitome of the statement. Having failed most of the exams he appeared in his life, Umashankar has finally attained his goal of becoming a government official at the age of 42.
Umashankar failed in more than 25 exams in his life. Staying firm on the path of passion, he appeared for the last departmental examination of his life and was successful in it. Currently, he is working as an auditor in Patna under the Bihar government after passing the examination conducted by BPSC.
His father, Jayanarayan Yadav, originally hails from Kachra village in the Benipatti block of Madhubani. He was responsible for the household until Umashankar found success. The father recalls that many family members often taunted Umashankar, but he never gave up.
Umashankar mentioned that he had attempted the mains exams several times but failed each time, sometimes missing by just 10 marks, and other times by 16 marks. Under pressure from his family, his marriage was arranged in 2018 during his preparations. With this added responsibility, Umashankar carried the burden of his family. In 2020, he filled out the form for B.Sc., marking his final attempt at the exam. His results came in August 2023 in which he was selected for the post of auditor of BPSC. He is currently an auditor in the Panchayati Raj Department of BPSC in Patna.
Umashankar said that during the trying times, when he was failing in the examinations, there were many detractors, both among family and friends. Seeing that he was unable to qualify for the exams post his graduation, many told him to open up a business of his own. However, he did not give up. Umashankar attributes his perseverance to finding solace in the Hindi adaptation of Joseph Marco’s book ‘Subconscious Mind’. Following this, when the results finally arrived, his success began to resonate widely.
