100 Students in Odisha's Balasore Fall Ill After Consuming Midday Meal Contaminated with Lizard
Despite the quick response, several children complained of stomach aches and chest pain after a student spotted a lizard in the meal

In a disturbing incident in Balasore district, Odisha, roughly 100 students from Udayanarayan Nodal School in Sirapur village became unwell after eating their midday meal on Thursday. According to India Today, students received rice and curry as part of the school’s midday meal programme. However, the situation became grave when a student spotted a lizard in the meal. When the school administrators learnt of this, they immediately ceased lunch distribution and told the children not to eat any more food.

Despite the quick response, several children complained of stomach aches and chest pain. They were swiftly taken to the closest community health clinic by ambulances and other available vehicles. Additionally, a medical team showed up at the school to offer on-the-spot emergency care. Unfortunately, many children continued to endure severe symptoms and began vomiting even after getting first treatment. These students were subsequently brought to the community health clinic for additional medical treatment.

In reaction to the event, the block education officer stated that a comprehensive investigation will be conducted, with legal action taken against individuals guilty for the failure in food safety.
