'Would Have a Chance if We Restricted SRH to 220-230': Rishabh Pant Feels DC Leaked Too Many Runs in Powerplay
Rishabh Pant said that Delhi Capitals conceeded too many runs in the powerplay as that was difference in the end for Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Delhi Capitals (DC) skipper Rishabh Pant said they conceded too many runs, especially in the powerplay after losing to Pat Cummins’ Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by 67 runs in their 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) clash at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Saturday.

IPL 2024: Delhi Capitals vs Sunrisers Hyderabad – HIGHLIGHTS

Travis Head shone yet again as SRH notched up an imposing 266 for seven. They scored 125 runs without loss in power play, a record in the IPL.

Head smashed a 32-ball 89, with the help of 11 strokes to the boundary and six over it. while Abhishek Sharma clobbered 46 off 12 balls. Shahbaz Ahmed then scored an unbeaten 59 (29 balls) to give SRH another massive total to defend. Spinner Kuldeep Yadav took four wickets for DC.

Chasing a massive 267 runs to win, Delhi were in the hunt initially through Jake Fraser-McGurk ( scoring 65 from 18 balls) and Abhishek Porel (42 from 22 balls). But once both of them were dismissed, Delhi’s chase too fizzled out as SRH bowlers struck regularly to push the asking rate near the realm of impossibility. Pacer T Natarajan bagged four wickets while leg-spinner Mayank Markande picked up two wickets for SRH.

Rishabh Pant said after the match that he had counted on dew to help DC in their chase in the second innings and added that his bowlers conceded too many runs in the powerplay.

“I think the only thought process behind it was there could be dew which didn’t come (on choosing to bowl first), but we would still have had a chance had we restricted them to 220-230,” Rishabh Pant said at the post-match presentation.

“The powerplay was the difference, they got (125) runs and we ended up playing catch up after that. The ball stopped more in the 2nd innings, that was more than we anticipated, but when we needed to chase 260, 270, you’ll need to keep scoring,” Pant added.

Counting the positives after the mauling, Pant praised Jake Fraser-McGurk.

“Hopefully, we’ll come up with more thought processes and a clear mindset going forward. His batting has been phenomenal (on Fraser-McGurk), he’s been nice for us, that’s what we need to do as a team, be together, look at areas where we can improve going into the next game,” Pant said.
