It was raining sixes at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru and the man responsible for the demolition job of Afghanistan bowlers was a certain Rohit Sharma who turned back the clock back to hit a blistering T20I century on Wednesday.
Rohit turned a scratchy start into a memorable innings as he blazed away to a record-breaking fifty T20I century – the most by any batter in the format’s history. He remained unbeaten on 121 off 69, an innings featuring 11 fours and eight sixes.

During his stay, Rohit broke a flurry of records in the company of youngster Rinku Singh who peeled off a blistering half-century in a memorable partnership with his captain.

Most T20I centuries: With his fifth T20I century, Rohit is now the sole holder for the record of most hundreds in the format. Before tonight’s contest, Rohit had Suryakumar Yadav and Glenn Maxwell for company at the top with the trio hitting four centuries apiece.
Career-best Score: The 121* is Rohit’s highest individual score of T20I career, surpassing his previous best of 118 against Sri Lanka in December 2017.
Oldest T20I Centurion from India: At 36 years and 262 days, Rohit is now the oldest Indian to have scored a century in T20Is. He surpassed the previous record of Virat Kohli who, incidentally, also scored a century against Afghanistan aged 33 years 307 days.
Most Sixes by a T20I Captain: Rohit struck eight sixes during his innings and has now set a new record for the most maximums by a captain in T20Is. He now have 90 sixes as India captain which is four more than the previous record of 86 set by Eoin Morgan. The next best Indian on the list is Virat Kohli with 59 sixes.
Most Runs as a India T20I Captain: Rohit also surpassed Kohli for most runs as India T20I skipper. Kohli had 1570 runs in 50 matches as captain while Rohit now has 1648 runs from 54 games.
Highest Partnership for India: With Rinku Singh, Rohit stitched a record unbroken 190-run partnership for the fifth wicket which is the highest for any wicket by an Indian pair in T20I history.
