`Out or not out, that is the question, even as Virat Kohli’s controversial dismissal may or may not have affected the eventual outcome as Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) pipped Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) by one run in their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 clash at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Sunday.
Third umpire Michael Gough used the new Hawk-Eye technology to determine no-balls for height to rule the contested waist-high delivery from Harshit Rana that was edged back to the bowler by Kohli.
Experts, fans and even Kohli during the game had his say on the matter, albeit his language may have been unsportsmanlike.

RCB pacer Reece Topley termed it “a grey area” in the sport and called for more clarifications in the rules.
“Obviously, those measurements are brought in to get rid of a grey area, and then you have something today (Sunday) that no one had thought of,” Topley said at the post-match press conference.
“He (Kohli) was obviously out of his crease and the ball was over his hip high, then obviously he was out of his crease down the wicket.
“The measurement was taken with Virat inside the crease so it’s a bit of a grey area. Obviously, it’s a fine margin and would be spoken about in a game where the victory margin is just one run.
“We are going to be disappointed. There are going to be two different moods, and different feelings about that dismissal. It’s just a grey area,” Topley added.
When asked what his reaction would be if he was at the receiving end of such a dismissal, he said: “I can throw this back to you saying what was your opinion. It’s tough…two people can have two different opinions. In our camp, we feel like it’s a grey area, like uncharted territory, so probably you need more clarifications in the rules.”

Kolkata Knight Riders seamer Harshit Rana, who was the benefiting party in Kohli’s ‘controversial’ dismissal, did not want to be drawn into any further controversy and refused to comment on the matter.
“It was the umpire’s decision. What can we say about that?” Harshit said at the post-match press conference.
As soon as the game ended, Kohli was spotted in another animated conversation with the onfield umpire, who tried explaining to the star Indian batter what the rules say.
In the end, what matters is that RCB lost their sixth game of the season and are placed rock-bottom on the points table.
