Former Pakistani batter Mohammad Yousuf has stepped down from his role as selector of the Pakistan men’s cricket team. The 50-year-old took to X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday (September 29) to inform about his decision.
According to him, he has resigned due to personal reasons and is proud to have contributed to the growth and success of Pakistan cricket.
“I announce my resignation as a selector for the Pakistan cricket team due to personal reasons. Serving this incredible team has been a profound privilege, and I am proud to have contributed to the growth and success of Pakistan Cricket. I have immense faith in the talent and spirit of our players, and Wish our team all the best as they continue to strive for greatness,” he tweeted.

Yousuf, who played in 90 Tests, 288 ODIs, and three T20Is for Men in Green during his 12-year-long international career, was appointed as selector in March 2024, and he picked the side for the T20 World Cup 2024.
He was retained by the Pakistan Cricket Board in the revamped selection committee post Babar Azam-led side’s flop show in the T20 World Cup 2024, and then he picked Pakistan’s team for the two-match Test series against Bangladesh in August-September and for the first Test against England, which is set to start on October 7 in Multan.
England to land in Pakistan next week
After losing back-to-back Test matches against Bangladesh, Pakistan will face England in a three-match Test series in October. The first two matches are scheduled to take place in Multan, and the Rawalpindi will host the third red-ball match.
England will play under the leadership of Ben Stokes, who missed the last series against Sri Lanka due to injury, whereas Shan Masood has been retained as Pakistan’s captain.
Masood, who replaced Babar Azam as Pakistan’s Test captain last year, has lost all five matches played so far. He would like to help his side end the losing run of five matches and get the better of England, which whitewashed them in their last Test tour of Pakistan in December 2022.
England is set to land in Pakistan next week to start their preparations for the three-match series, which is a must-win for them to keep their chances of reaching the World Test Championship alive.
