BCCI Files Unofficial Complaint With ICC Over Pitch After Rohit Sharma Gets Hit During the Nets: Report
The Pitch at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium continues to be the center of attention with its uneven bounce.

It seems that the BCCI has had enough of the ‘dangerous’ playing conditions in New York’s Nassau County Cricket Stadium. A report claims that the Indian cricket board has filed an unofficial complaint with the International Cricket Council (ICC) after Rohit Sharma was again hit on his hand during a practice session on Friday.

The drop-in pitch being installed at the pop-up stadium in New York in the ongoing 2024 T20 World Cup has invited widespread criticism with a report now claiming that the ICC is trying to ‘fix’ the surface to prevent any untoward incident during the highly anticipated India vs Pakistan clash to be played at the venue on Sunday.

India captain Rohit was hit on his arm during the team’s tournament opener against Ireland which forced him to retire out. He had scored a fine half-century as the former champions began their campaign with an eight-wicket win.

As per Dainik Jagran, Rohit was batting in the nets when he copped a blow to his left glove while facing throwdown specialist Nuwan Seneviratne as the team is gearing up for the blockbuster contest against Pakistan.

India have been pooled in Group A alongside co-hosts USA, Pakistan, Ireland and Canada. A total of 20 teams are taking part in the marquee event and they have been divided into four groups of five each.

The top-two teams from each group will advance to the Super-Eight stage.

The concerns resulted in ICC acknowledging that the pitch haven’t been up to the mark and that it’s working on improving the quality.

“…the pitches used so far at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium have not played as consistently as we would have all wanted. The world-class grounds team have been working hard since the conclusion of yesterday’s game to remedy the situation and deliver the best possible surfaces for the remaining matches,” the ICC said in a statement earlier this week.

The first match of the tournament, played on pitch no. 1 in New York, saw Sri Lanka being bundled out for 77 with South Africa chasing down the target in 16.1 overs.

The India vs Ireland clash was held on pitch no. 4.

Ireland were skittled for 96 and India chased down the target in 12.2 overs for an eight-wicket win but note before Rohit and Rishabh Pant copped blows to their bodies.
