The 2024 Women’s T20 World Cup is set to commence with a blockbuster clash between Bangladesh and Scotland. The match will be played at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium on October 3.
Bangladesh are the official hosts of this ninth edition of the Women’s T20 World Cup. The multi-nation tournament, however, will be taking place in the UAE this year. The International Cricket Council (ICC) had changed the venue considering the ongoing political turbulence in Bangladesh. The Asian country last time played host to the ICC event in 2014 when Australia secured the title by beating England in the final.
Bangladesh have yet to win the Women’s T20 World Cup. Nigar Sultana Joty will be leading the team in this year’s competition. Bangladesh played two warm-up matches ahead of the tournament. They registered a 33-run win in the first practice match against Sri Lanka before defeating Pakistan by 23 runs.
Meanwhile, Scotland secured a commanding 8-wicket win over Pakistan in a warm-up match and beat Sri Lanka by five wickets in the following game. Apart from Bangladesh and Scotland, the other teams in Group B are England, South Africa and the West Indies.
