This Virudhunagar Farmer Is Letting Goats Graze His Flower Crops Because …
In an interaction with Local18, the farmer was asked about the reason for destroying the crop and how he carried out the same.

Tuberose is one of the most important flowering plants. It is not only a primary commercial cut but a loose flower crop as well. Tuberose is known for its pleasant fragrance, longer vase life, and wide flexibility to different kinds of climates and soil. This year, the farmers in Tamil Nadu’s Virudhunagar — who cultivated the particular plant — are worried as excessive rains have ruined the flowers they grew. In the aftermath of the unusual rain that has drained the crops, a farmer named Shishya, who hails from Bhikhapatti village near Alaghapuri in Virudhunagar, stepped in with the decision to destroy these spoilt flowers with the help of a strange way. In an interaction with Local18, the farmer was asked about the reason for destroying the crop and how he carried out the same. In response, Shishya informed that he is letting his goats graze the flowers that he planted in 50 cents of land. He added that the excessive rain was ruining the crops, this is why he was left with no other choice but to let the goats destroy the flowers. He said that he would have earned a profit of Rs 30,000 from the flowers, had there been no rainfall this year.

Although the farmer was left in disdain for the loss he would have to bear this year, he wanted the goats to feed on them as their meal. As Shishya is disappointed due to the rains, another farmer in Virudhunagar named Chatavu is making great dividends with small grain farming.

Chatavu, in an interaction with the local media, reported how organic farming is turning out to be fruitful for him. He said that a bundle of horsetail plants earns him profit of Rs 5000 to 7000. In addition to that, he also noted that approximately 50 bundles of this plant are available on his three-acre land. Therefore, he will be earning a good amount of Rs 2 to 3 lakh.
