Jiiva is one of the prominent actors and producers of the Tamil film industry. Recently, one of his films is gaining traction on social media. Titled Ko, it is scheduled for a grand re-release on March 1, 2024.
The plan is to re-release the film in a total of 100 theatres across Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Karnataka, as opposed to the common practice of releasing it in one or two theatres in major cities like Chennai. The makers attempted to re-release this political drama as the Lok Sabha elections drew near.
Billed as an action thriller, Ko follows Ashwin, a photographer, and Renuka, an investigative journalist, as they investigate the case of the murder of their colleague at a political event. Produced by Elred Kumar and Jayaraman under the banner of RS Infotainment, the film was released in 2011.
Ko was a commercial success and was also dubbed in Telugu. Directed by KV Anand, the film had a stellar cast including Ajmal Ameer, Karthika Nair, Piaa Bajpai, and Prakash Raj besides Jiiva. Meanwhile, the music was composed by Harris Jayaraj, with cinematography handled by Richard M Nathan.
Garnering praise from critics and audiences alike, the film stood out not only for its compelling narrative but also for its societal relevance.
Producer Elred Kumar stated, “Ko continues to stand as one of our most successful films. The film not only brought us great success but also gave emotional fulfilment as audiences see it as more than just a cinematic experience. Since its release in 2011, the film has still managed to remain relatable. This is all because of filmmaker KV Anand and the performances by Jiiva, Ajmal, and the entire cast, along with Harris Jayaraj’s music.”
Kumar further stated we are thrilled to re-release the film to today’s youth, recognizing their potential to influence Indian politics. This is an emotional moment for all of us as it allowed us to collaborate with an iconic filmmaker like KV Anand.”
KV Anand shot to fame with films including Ayan, Maattrraan and Ko. He took his last breath on 30 April 2021 in Chennai.
