How This Tamil Nadu School Fulfilled Children's Wish To See Planes And Trains

A government primary school in Pillaiyarpatti Panchyat in Thanjavur district of Tamil Nadu has fulfilled the wishes of its students in an unimaginable way. Chitra is the headmistress of the school which has a total strength of 130 students. It has a total of four teachers Sivasankari, Latha and Revathi along the headmistress.

Recently Children’s Day was celebrated throughout India on November 14. A few school students expressed their desire to see planes and trains to the teachers. The school staff wanted to fulfil the wishes of their students but were unable to do so because of the lack of permission from the higher authorities. Hence, they took a different approach. They painted the school walls with realistic drawings of planes and trains for the students.

The government primary school in Pillaiyarpatti village hired an artist named Narsimhan who drew realistic drawings of aeroplanes, trains, ships, omnibuses etc on the walls of schools to fulfil the desire of students. Similarly, various intellectual paintings including satellites, traditional games, water conservation, folk arts and images of crops were drawn to import the right moral values to the students.

The initiative by the school was supported by the Panchayat Council President Udayakumar, the School Education Department, the School Management Committee and the parents of the students. The funding was provided by the former Education Officer Sivakumar and the state government for this caricature.

These realistic paintings have numerous advantages. It helps in developing general knowledge along with the studies as it is believed that pictures are easier to grasp than words. This extraordinary initiative of the headmistress of Pillaiyarpatti Panchayat Primary School is gaining widespread appreciation from the authorities and parents.

While talking to Local18, the authorities said that these paintings, intellectual mottos and art are pretty useful for the students. They also claimed that this initiative has resulted in an increased attendance percentage in the school. They believe that if every government school are set up like this, then the number of students will increase in the schools. The teachers are also happy that they were able to fulfil the wishes of their students to some extent.
